Are porcelain and ceramics the same thing?

First of all, when you're renovating, the first word that comes to mind when you think of tile is "ceramic". Then you walk into a materials retailer, and they mention porcelain. What are the differences? I'll demystify it for you!

There is a difference between the two types of product! Although they're both made from similar materials - clay and loam - porcelain also contains a variety of other minerals whose particles are finer and can therefore be compressed even further during firing. This makes porcelain a more resistant product than ceramic. For reference, dentists make porcelain teeth! Ceramic can be more fragile, porous and less resistant to temperature changes.

But don't worry! When you come into one of our branches and ask to see the "ceramics". Most of the time, we offer porcelain to suit the needs of the room you've mentioned!

We look forward to seeing you in store for your ceramic purchases ;)
