Laminate floating floors: A modern, durable and aesthetic solution.

Forget old misconceptions about Laminate floors . Today, laminate floors offer quality, durability, and visual realism that rival the finest materials. Here's why this type of flooring has become an increasingly popular choice, whether in condos, basements, rental properties, or even kitchens.

An advanced technical composition

A laminate floating floor is made up of several layers:

  • ·      A high-density fiber (HDF) core, which ensures strength and stability.
  • ·      A high-resolution printed decorative layer that mimics wood to the point of deception.
  • ·      A transparent, abrasion-resistant wear layer .

Surface water resistant

The latest models feature a water-resistant surface coating that lasts for several hours, a major advantage for areas like kitchens and entryways. It's not a bathroom floor, but it can handle everyday mishaps very well.

A remarkable realistic appearance

The grain textures, varying patterns, and matte or satin finishes give today's floating floors an incredibly realistic look. It feels like walking on a real wood floor. They're nothing like the floating floors of yesteryear.

Resistance to all tests

Laminate is one of the most durable flooring options after ceramic. It even surpasses vinyl in durability in many cases. To measure this durability, the AC (Abrasion Class) index is used:

  • ·      AC1 to AC3: light to heavy residential use
  • ·      AC4: heavy residential or light commercial use
  • ·      AC5: Light commercial use (shops, restaurants, etc. without direct exterior door)

Thicknesses: 8mm to 12.5mm

Thickness is not directly related to strength. It exists mainly for practical reasons: if you are replacing your floor but don't want to touch the baseboards, you can choose the same thickness as the previous one (8, 10, 12 mm, etc.). This is also an advantage for maintaining the alignment of door sills.

Easy installation, minimal maintenance

Thanks to the floating (click) assembly system, installation is quick, clean, and glue-free. A skilled DIYer can even do it themselves. Before installing a floating laminate floor, it is essential to install a membrane between the subfloor and the covering. This membrane plays an important role: it can simply be a vapor barrier to protect against moisture, especially in basements or on a concrete slab. In the case of a condo or co-ownership housing, it is often required to use a membrane with acoustic properties to comply with the building's soundproofing standards. These membranes reduce impact noise and improve sound comfort between floors. It is therefore important to choose the right membrane according to the type of project and the requirements of the location.

For maintenance, a sweep with a broom or a slightly damp mop is sufficient. No special products or sanding are required.

Repairable if necessary

In the event of localized damage (large scratches, impact from objects), if you have kept a floor box, it is possible to remove the damaged slats and replace them, a huge advantage compared to glued or nailed hardwood.

A smart choice for all your projects

Whether it is for:

  • A rental building
  • A basement
  • A condo
  • A kitchen
  • Or any other residential or semi-commercial project

Laminate floating flooring ticks all the boxes: looks, durability, water resistance, ease of maintenance and affordability.
